Project deactivation

A deactivated project is paused: its data plane refuses requests until the project is active again. The console shows a banner at the top of every page of the project, with the reason and what to do.

A project is deactivated when:

  • the organization’s subscription is paused;
  • a payment failed and wasn’t fixed;
  • an owner paused the project;
  • VAIF support paused it, for example over a terms-of-service issue.

Data-plane requests to a deactivated project (the data API, storage, realtime and function invokes) answer 403 with the code PROJECT_DEACTIVATED:

{
"error": "Forbidden",
"code": "PROJECT_DEACTIVATED",
"message": "This project has been deactivated. Contact support@vaif.studio to reactivate.",
"reason": "<why the project was deactivated>",
"reactivate_url": "<a console link for the project's owner>",
"requestId": "req_…"
}

In @vaifstudio/client the error is thrown as a VaifError:

import { createVaifClient, VaifError } from "@vaifstudio/client";
const vaif = createVaifClient({
baseUrl: "https://api.vaif.studio",
projectId: process.env.VAIF_PROJECT_ID,
apiKey: process.env.VAIF_PUBLISHABLE_KEY,
});
try {
await vaif.from("posts").list();
} catch (error) {
if (error instanceof VaifError && error.code === "PROJECT_DEACTIVATED") {
console.warn("This project is paused. Its owner can bring it back from the console.");
} else {
throw error;
}
}
  • A paused subscription or a failed payment: an owner opens Organization settings › Plan & payments and chooses Resume subscription or Update payment method. See Plan and payments.
  • Paused by VAIF support: contact support@vaif.studio.
